Our funding supports The Food Foundation’s work to improve the quality and accessibility of school food. The grant provides flexible support for research, advocacy and coalition-building, allowing the organisation to respond quickly when national policy changes.
A central focus is the School Food Standards and their practical implications for secondary schools. The Food Foundation brings evidence about issues such as grab-and-go food, drinks, vending, snacks, short lunch breaks and commercial pressures into conversations with government and the wider sector.
The work connects national policy with school-level delivery through initiatives such as the School Food Review and School Food Project. This helps ensure that discussions about stronger standards also consider funding, monitoring, compliance and the practical support schools and caterers need to implement them.
Our grant also supports collaboration with organisations working across education, catering, public health and children’s wellbeing. By bringing different voices and evidence together, The Food Foundation can build a stronger case for reform and respond to concerns about cost, feasibility and uptake.
We are funding this work because policy ambition alone is not enough. Better standards need to be properly funded, understood, monitored and delivered. The Food Foundation helps connect evidence and advocacy with the realities of implementation.
