Our funding supports Bite Back 2030’s work to ensure young people have a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape the food available to them. Bite Back combines youth leadership, research and campaigning to highlight the realities of secondary school food and influence national policy and practice.
Through its network of School Food Champions, young people investigate the food sold and promoted in their schools, share their experiences and develop the skills to campaign for change. The programme aims to involve 100 secondary schools, reach around 20,000 students and support more than 2,000 young people to become active champions for better food.
The grant also supports research and advocacy on issues such as grab-and-go food, school food standards and the commercial pressures surrounding young people. Evidence gathered directly from students is used in government consultations, roundtables and discussions with ministers and policymakers.
We are funding Bite Back because young people should not simply be consulted about school food. They should be able to influence it. By helping students turn their everyday experiences into credible evidence and practical recommendations, Bite Back is building a powerful youth-led case for food that is healthier, more appealing and better suited to young people’s lives.
